We should adopt 'zipper merging'

We should adopt 'zipper merging'

Re: Letters about traffic and merging from Brent Heit, Jacquie Glenn and Tony Gull. Today I drove into Edmonton on Groat Road. As I was turning onto River Valley Road, there was construction and so many cars were stopped. We waited almost 10 minutes and then the traffic started moving. There were two lines. As we started moving, the cars were taking turns from each lane to let each other in. Wow! Is this ever great.
Water bylaw not needed

Water bylaw not needed

Re: Proposed water use bylaw. Hooray! Silly council is again attempting to save us from ourselves. Sell us a basic service and then try to regulate when and how we use it. I am sure that if council keeps a record of the number of hours administration will put into developing a water use bylaw, and the time council will debate the issue, the city would be able to save enough to pay the entire year's bill by doing nothing.
Leave BLESS problem behind with scat policy

Leave BLESS problem behind with scat policy

I noticed that BLESS has uncovered a new hazard in the park (“Bush ‘business’ causes a stink,” Saturday, July 19). The last time they got involved in this kind of matter, there were complaints to Revenue Canada.

Time to put Villeneuve Road issue to bed

Time to put Villeneuve Road issue to bed

Re: Potential closure of Villeneuve Road. While I am happy to see the project currently "on hold", I would like to see confirmation from the city and council that this idea has been cancelled completely. Any changes that result in an increase in traffic flow down the residential Deer Ridge Drive, especially during peak school drop-off and pickup times is clearly unacceptable.
Water bylaw is stupid

Water bylaw is stupid

I have been trying to figure out the purpose of a toothless water use bylaw as is being thrown at us. Water use has always been a pretentious issue. It pits neighbour against neighbour and wealthy against the less privileged.
Hiking trail has rules

Hiking trail has rules

As a frequent cyclist on St. Albert's beautiful Red Willow trail system, I am often amazed at some people's lack of trail etiquette.
Roaming cats a pain in the butt

Roaming cats a pain in the butt

In response to Dianne McDonald's complaint (July 12 Gazette) of a neighbour shooting her tabby in the butt – your cat has my sympathy for having such a selfish owner.
Let residents use water they pay for

Let residents use water they pay for

I am trying to wrap my head around the decision of our city council to bring forward a city water usage bylaw. With the cost of water at this time on our usage bills from the city, we are being charged a handsome amount for its use.
City manager should sue on his own dime

City manager should sue on his own dime

City manager Patrick Draper, a City of St. Albert employee, believes that he was defamed in an online blog (front page, July 19 Gazette). It is possible that what was written about him was false and, if so, he is entitled to defend himself.
