Re: Potential closure of Villeneuve Road. While I am happy to see the project currently "on hold", I would like to see confirmation from the city and council that this idea has been cancelled completely. Any changes that result in an increase in traffic flow down the residential Deer Ridge Drive, especially during peak school drop-off and pickup times is clearly unacceptable.

Closing Villeneuve Road to divert through traffic (via Dennison) past the already busy Muriel Martin school zone is point-blank ridiculous and dangerous.
In fact, this plan would also increase traffic through the J.J. Nearing school zone as well – and one suspects Sturgeon Heights would see an increase in traffic via Hogan Road also.
To divert traffic from a road that doesn't have a single house or school facing onto it through the neighbourhoods of three schools and residential streets has to be one of the most poorly considered ideas in city planning history – made sadly and brutally more ironic in a year of the toughest losses and the resulting Safe Journeys to School initiative.
The council and city need to declare definitively that they will do nothing that increases traffic through these residential areas and school zones and put this issue to rest so that parents and residents do not have to continue worrying.
