Leave BLESS problem behind with scat policy

I noticed that BLESS has uncovered a new hazard in the park (“Bush ‘business’ causes a stink,” Saturday, July 19). The last time they got involved in this kind of matter, there were complaints to Revenue Canada.

I noticed that BLESS has uncovered a new hazard in the park (“Bush ‘business’ causes a stink,” Saturday, July 19). The last time they got involved in this kind of matter, there were complaints to Revenue Canada. So please handle this situation with care.

What BLESS has revealed presents city council with a great opportunity to pioneer a new service. Our city could become the first in the capital region to offer a dial-a-potty service. One call to a dedicated phone number could result in a response by a peace officer on a golf cart equipped with lights and siren. The golf cart would have in tow a low-floor trailer with a custom designed port-a-potty. This service could provide welcome relief to persons in distress on any of the trails in our parks.

On another side of this problem, I hope that city council can develop an overarching policy to deal with all forms of scat. It would be a great waste if this resulted in separate scat policies for dog scat, cat scat, human scat, etc. It might require the services of a consultant to develop such a policy but it might be money well spent.
