The informative and comprehensive article "SAMBA hits home run" by staff writer Jeff Hansen ( Gazette , Oct. 14) prompted me to comment on the ever-continuing progress of the St. Albert Minor Baseball Association.

People who give of their time and care and assist others in need should be recognized and known in our community of St. Albert. It means a lot to a senior to be helped by their warm, sincere kindness and thoughtfulness and time. On Sept.

Being schooled by the garbage collectors for placing a bag on top of the garbage bin is not enough. Taking five seconds to remove the bag from the bin to completely close the lid is not enough.

I was shopping at Superstore about 1 p.m. on Oct. 13 . When I got to the till I discovered that I had left my wallet at home and asked the cashier if she could set my items aside and I would return in a short time to pay for and collect them.

I wish to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation for the kindness of Randy, Gerald, and Jason. On the afternoon of Thanksgiving Monday Oct. 9 the car I had borrowed from my sister broke down on Ray Gibbon Drive.

On Oct. 9 (Thanksgiving Monday) between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. a section of our fence was deliberately set on fire with lighter fluid. It was a sight that left not only our family but our neighbours in total dismay.

I've lived in St. Albert since 1985. For 10 years in the 1970s - 1980s I was a journalist at the Winnipeg Free Press and Winnipeg Tribune. I spent five years reporting on Manitoba and Winnipeg politics.

On Sept. 30, I walked down to Lions Park to take in St. Albert's first Multicultural Fest. It was a very good first attempt. The dancers were professional and entertaining. Those in attendance, albeit a small group, were happy and enjoyed themselves.

Thanks Brian McLeod for articulating so accurately the integrity, commitment and devotion to the community of St. Albert that defines our outstanding mayor, Nolan Crouse in your column This Too Shall Pass, ( Gazette , Sept. 30).

Governments of all kinds are renowned for being extremely inefficient. I have seen this close up in two different industries. Control over funds runs adversarially to saving.
