I challenge the reasoning of those who question the legitimacy of plebiscites as a democratic option. I will go so far as to say that in this complicated world democracy is impossible without them.

I am responding to Doug Toshack’s letter ( Gazette , Nov. 18). In St. Albert we have up to 100 homeless people, ranging from youth fleeing an abusive home, to women abused by their partners, to those who have succumbed to drugs and alcohol.

I have recently moved here from B.C. and cannot believe the stupidity of a $20,000 cat poll ( Gazette , Nov. 22). In my neighbourhood two out of three cat owners just let their animals roam free.

An explanation regarding Remembrance Day ceremony is warranted ( Gazette , Nov 22). The Royal Canadian Legion-St. Albert Branch 271, with help from the City of St. Albert, organizes the Remembrance Day parade and cenotaph ceremony every year.

It is evident in her letter that Valerie Spink ( Gazette , Nov. 18) prefers a doctrinaire type of government as opposed to one with critical thinkers.

Re: Doug Toshack's “Ending homelessness was not on Heron’s platform” ( Gazette , Nov. 18). Mr. Toshack, like every other community, St. Albert has social problems too.

In regards to the Lacombe Lakers miffed about dog park fencing ( Gazette , Nov. 18): The Lacombe Lake Dog Park was established before the retirement development was built. Dogs were already running free and barking.

Each year we are blessed to have a meaningful ceremony to commemorate our veterans of the various wars and conflicts. This is just a simple letter to thank all the people who make this happen; the organizers and participants both civic and military.

It would appear that the self-proclaimed branch library advocate Valerie Spink would rather twist the new council to her views than submit to the 63 per cent of the voting electorate who voted no when asked.

I’d like to respond to Billy Redpath’s Letter to the Editor (Gazette, Nov. 11), titled, “Insulting for Christmas market to happen before Nov.11.” I don’t quite understand why he’s so upset by the date of the Christmas market being on Nov. 4, 2017.
