How do we solve homelessness?

Re: Doug Toshack's “Ending homelessness was not on Heron’s platform” ( Gazette , Nov. 18). Mr. Toshack, like every other community, St. Albert has social problems too.

Mr. Toshack, like every other community, St. Albert has social problems too. You seem disappointed that our city takes steps to mitigate those problems, and specifically homelessness.
You mentioned at the end of your letter that “we need to be careful and protective of what we have here."  I fully agree, and suggest to you that much of the ambience of living in St. Albert that you and your family are enjoying so much is a result of a population that has empathy and a will to help people who are in need of assistance, and do what we can to provide that.
I think that it is this compassionate attitude  that we need to further and protect.  And since you have obviously been thinking about it – what would you suggest that our city do about homelessness in St. Albert?
