With less than a month to go in the regular season, the St. Albert Junior Cardinals are set to make a push to the playoffs. The Cards are currently sitting in sixth place in the North Central Alberta Baseball League standings with a 7-7 record.

The Boston Bruins have signed forward Jarome Iginla to a one-year contract through the 2013-2014 season. Iginla’s contract comes with a base salary of $1.8 million and incentives worth $4.2 million.

In Norwest Midget AAA Baseball League action, the St. Albert Cardinals are at home against the Sherwood Park Athletics tonight and the visiting Spruce Grove White Sox 2 Thursday night. Both games go at 7 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.

The 16th Annual Tigers' Baseball Association Tournament takes over Legion Memorial Park this weekend, Friday through Sunday. Six teams from Alberta will compete in the event including all five squads in the Sunburst senior men's AAA league.

The St. Albert Stars put another mark in the win column Saturday when they steamrolled the Lloydminster Vandals 79-3 at Clarke Park. St. Albert has a 3-1 record in their inaugural year in the Alberta Football League.

The senior B Miners got off to a slow start as they shook off the rust Wednesday night against the Edmonton Outlaws in Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League action. The No. 2 ranked Miners pulled out a 7-2 win against Edmonton in a penalty-filled game.
