Fort Saskatchewan – Playing from behind for most of Saturday’s final left the St. Albert Riders trailing the Calgary Wildcats in the race to the finish line for the Football Alberta Tier I peewee championship.

Junior B games The Saturday Night Special in the Capital Junior B Hockey is the 6 p.m. tilt between the St. Albert Merchants and Morinville Jets at Ray McDonald Sports Centre.

Slash road win The third victory in a row for the first-place St. Albert Slash was recorded Sunday in Red Deer.

SAPEC volleyball The stage is set for the St. Albert Physical Education Council junior high volleyball championships. Thursday’s Tier I city finals feature the Richard S. Fowler Falcons against the Sir George Simpson Voyageurs for the girls at 6 p.m.

The up and down St. Albert Nektar Data Systems Raiders are on the upswing after bouncing back from a six-game winless streak. Sunday’s 3-1 victory over the Calgary Flames also raised the team’s record to 5-5-2 in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.

Peewee final The Football Alberta Tier I peewee final between the St. Albert Riders and Calgary Wildcats kicks off today at 1 p.m. at Taurus Field in Fort Saskatchewan. Both teams are 10-0 after winning their respective league championships.

Mission ringette The St. Albert Mission ringette teams are skating for medals this weekend at the Bernadette Price Memorial Tournament in Saskatoon.

The second and most important season for the St. Albert High Skyhawks kicks off in today’s provincial playoff. The Tier III north semifinal against the Whitecourt Cats starts at 1 p.m. at Larry Olexiuk Field.

Commonwealth Stadium – For the first time this season, the Sturgeon Spirits looked like a first-year football team.
