“Extreme” weather conditions including high winds and blowing snow causing white-out conditions led to the decision, according to a news release.

“Visibility is extremely poor in many locations,” the RCMP said, adding officers are responding to multiple collisions and rollovers along Highway 2 between Leduc and Red Deer.

Most accidents occur when riders venture off of designated trails. Winter tires or track kits can help provide better traction on ice and snow.
