A tow ban on the QEII was still in place Wednesday morning between Blackfalds and Edmonton, but road conditions on the highway between Calgary and Red Deer have improved since Tuesday night.

The province’s travel advisory service, 511 Alberta, noted in its 7:30 a.m. update that the tow ban on the roadway also known as the Queen Elizabeth II Highway, between the province’s capital city and Highway 616 remained in effect.

“Reduced visibility and slippery sections are still making extremely hazardous road conditions. Several vehicles in the ditch. Avoid travel until conditions improve,” 511 Alberta noted.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a blowing snow advisory Tuesday afternoon for much of the QEII between Edmonton and Central Alberta.

By just after 6 p.m. RCMP in central and northern Alberta advised that road conditions were extremely bad, specifically in Leduc, Wetaskiwin, Camrose County, Maskwacis, Ponoka and areas around Edmonton.

RCMP reported whiteout conditions with severe wind. Visibility was noted as being extremely poor in many locations.
