It's Day 5 of the Gazette's 12 Days of Christmas Kindness campaign, where we give surprise gifts to people doing good in the community!
Today’s gift is going to Rick Chomyn, who was nominated by his friend Shelley Biermanski. Here’s what Shelley had to say when we asked her why she nominated Rick:
12 Days of Christmas Kindness is a series of videos running from Dec. 13 to 24 in the Gazette. Check out other videos in the series here:
DAY 1: "The heart of the neighbourhood"
DAY 2: "The angel of Facebook"
DAY 3: "Every street needs a light on it"
DAY 4: From Ukraine to St. Albert, with love
"Rick has a heart of gold, a zest for life, a deep love and caring for family, is a longtime devoted husband, has a kindness for everyone he crosses paths with, is a soothing shoulder for those who are down and shares his best sense of humour. Rick makes everyone feel happier. Rick cared for his wife while she beat cancer, he is super Dad who would move the earth for his children.
"Rick loves food and cooking and brings goodies to the boys at the Railway. He decorates the train engine for his coworkers. He writes poetry for memorials. His love of music shows no boundaries and he shares his talent in countless situations including visiting seniors and those in hospital care.
"Rick loves people and touches so many. Rick loves St. Albert and can be found surrounded by long time friends polishing their cars at Rock'n August, Wednesday breakfast at the casino, the Crowne and Tower for a visit, picnics, parades, on a motorcycle ride, at Fountain Park pool or helping a neighbour with their garden. Rick is always kind to servers, will hold the arm of someone who needs assistance and still opens doors. Rick was raised well and raises happiness and joy in others."
Shelley tells us Rick would be into anything involving guitars, so we talked to our friends at St. Albert Centre and they’ve provided $240 in gift cards for Rick to be able to hit the music store!
Let’s go meet Shelley and give Rick the good news and the gift!
