LETTER: Photo radar changes a danger to motorists

Speed kills and the Alberta Government just declared open season on motorists.
LETTERS

Speed kills and the Alberta Government just declared open season on motorists.
Are they aware the most dangerous thing most Albertans do every day is drive to work? People are more likely to be hurt or killed while driving than by anything else they will do in their day. Why have they decided that increasing the risk associated with driving is somehow a benefit to Albertans?
By cutting back on photo radar they have given bad drivers the green light to speed all they want. We will see an increase in collisions and an increase in the seriousness of damage and injuries caused by those collisions. Logic indicates the faster you drive, the harder you hit.
The government’s assertion that photo radar is a cash cow only proves that far too many drivers are already putting the rest of us at risk by speeding. It is an abuser-pay system. The only people who pay a fine are the speeders and drivers who are breaking the law.
Our government is supporting lawbreakers at the expense of law abiders.
Perhaps the transportation minister could consult - and actually listen to - the professionals in our police departments and quit making politically motivated, extremely short-sighted decisions that put us all at risk.
