Agree with the writer…fines are minor, but they reinforce that borrowing is a privilege. Teaches kids and their families about integrity, reputation, and respect for the incredible benefits of having access to libraries and their programs. The honour system needs reinforcing at every opportunity these days.

Definitely making a great effort to shop for Canadian products when possible, especially at the grocery store! If local products available, even better!

St Albert has already mismanaged a high school site in the west by allocating too small a space so this is not going to happen in that location. Get the northeast site ready for another public high school ASAP…even if the high school is the first development in that area…the rest to follow. The time to act on this has long-passed - we are playing catch up and kids are paying the price!

Gambling addiction ruins families both psychologically and financially. Our government needs to pay attention to its own culpability when endorsing gambling websites. These sites especially target young men - and that population are most susceptible to the detriments of gambling addiction - this can result in homelessness and suicide, for which young men get the age of 25 are most at risk. If you have a kid or spouse who loves video games and sports, you NEED to pay attention to this issue. If you are a taxpayer, you NEED to pay attention to this issue as there are very few supports in Canada to manage this growing public health emergency. The monies obtained by governments that participate in this venture are NOT going towards helping the people that are addicted by the hand of the government. We have enough poverty and mental illness in our province to financially manage, so there needs to be some common sense enacted by our politicians. STOP THIS RUNAWAY TRAIN NOW!

Shocked at how polarizing this topic seems to be: If you have sexual relations, you are at risk for any and all STIs. Married, not married, teens - anyone who has sex! Not a new thing! STIs can rob you of your ability to have children, can cause cancer, and they can even take your life. People of all ages need access to reputable health information about sexual health from AHS in as many ways as is possible - It really is that important.

Good on you, Elliot, for writing a letter to the editor, and for reading the newspaper! It’s wonderful to know that there are young people in our community who take an interest in informing themselves about local issues. Often, newspaper articles can carry heavy information and so, I 100% agree with you that our Gazette could use something like puzzles and comics to lighten the mood after reading about crime and taxes! I hope you get your wish! Keep reading and writing - the world needs young people like you who are passionate, engaged and willing to use their voice (or pen) to bring issues to the attention of others! Way to go!

If you have teens/a partner who game and/or are interested in sports, you need to be on high alert. As in Ontario, and in countries world-wide, this type of venture psychologically and financially destroys families. Check out “Ban Ads For Gambling” and join the fight to stop this. Not everyone is equipped to “gamble responsibly”. There are not enough social and health resources to manage yet another addiction explosion in Alberta.

Vandalism of public structures used daily by elementary and junior high school children creates fear for neighbourhood schools and the families whose children attend them. This does not bring awareness to world issues or generate support for serious crimes against humanity. Acts like this only serve to fuel fear and hate toward the perpetrators and so indirectly, toward the reason for your criminal act of vandalism. Do better for your cause and protest in appropriate areas without destroying property. Show your face instead of anonymously terrorizing young children. Please, leave the littles out of it. You can do better than this - Don’t encourage hate for child victims in Gaza by terrorizing children in St. Albert.

Really? They put a big screen in a parking lot for families to gather together to share in the excitement of the Oilers making it to the Stanley Cup Final! Not sure the cost, but I suspect it’s minuscule…with the goal of community-building… which is nothing but positive for our city. Good grief. So many other things that deserve our attention. Thank you to the city for seizing this opportunity to bring citizens together! Go Oilers! 🧡💙
