LETTER: Keep the late fines for overdue books

Well, the train has left the tracks again at our wonderful Public Library. I’m referring, of course, to the latest decision by Peter Baily and the Library Board to forgo overdue fines on Children’s and Youth materials.
LETTERS

Well, the train has left the tracks again at our wonderful Public Library. I’m referring, of course, to the latest decision by Peter Baily and the Library Board to forgo overdue fines on Children’s and Youth materials. In an inexplicable leap of logic, they ‘know’ that removing this ‘barrier’ (of overdue fines) will increase access to top-quality books and materials from our extensive curated collections. Balderdash! More like a wonderful opportunity to teach our youth that there is little or no accountability or repercussions for negligent behaviour in something as simple as returning a library book on time. It will assuredly serve them well in evading any accountability for their actions later in life.
