A woman charged with a $122,000 theft from a local restaurant made her first court appearance Monday.
Carola Lynn Cameron made her first appearance in person Monday on charges of theft and fraud.
She asked for some time to hire a lawyer to help her with the serious charges and indicated she would be pursuing help from legal aid.
Judge Brian Fraser granted her a month-long adjournment, but urged her to move as quickly as possible given the serious nature of the charges.
Cameron also asked the court to consider varying one of her bail conditions. As part of her release, she had been prohibited from leaving the province, but had an upcoming trip planned.
The bail condition is a standard one and with no objection from the crown, Fraser granted an exception from between Sept. 7 and Sept. 13.
St. Albert RCMP Const. Janice Schoepp said a human resource director with McDonald’s contacted the detachment in March of this year about cash deposits at the Tudor Glen location from January and February.
An investigation by both the company and the RCMP revealed those deposits were coming up alarmingly short.
Police initially had trouble locating Cameron and issued a warrant for her arrest, but she turned herself in to police shortly after that warrant was issued.
