Scott Olivieri is the current board chair for the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation. He's the first candidate registered for the mayoral race.

A longstanding member of the St. Albert community is the first to put his name in the race for mayor.

Scott Olivieri moved to St. Albert in 1989 when he was just over four years old. He's lived here ever since, and said he's fortunate to now be able to start a family in the city with his wife. They have two young children and a dog.

"St. Albert has always been home. It's a wonderful community," Olivieri said. "We wanted to grow our family here because we love St. Albert and we want out daughters to have that opportunity when it's time to do the same thing."

Currently, Olivieri sits as the board chair for the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation, the same hospital his daughters were born at. It's a position he's held for just over 8 years, and for a place that he feels a strong connection to is special for him.

"I joke, as a kid I probably used that hospital with various sports injuries and ailments growing up. So to be in a position and have the opportunity to give back to that hospital, it's been a wonderful experience," he said.

He said the foundation has raised over $16 million for the hospital over the years and he feels honoured to have been a part of the team.

"It's been an unbelievable journey seeing where it was when I first started to where it is today. And that's really a testament to our community -- and the surrounding communities that have used that facility -- and how much they appreciate and support it," he said.

In addition to his role with the hospital foundation, Olivieri has worked as a business consultant for a variety of both large and small businesses, he said.

Registered as a candidate on Feb. 13, 2025, Olivieri said he's running for mayor because he wants to help prepare St. Albert for the growth it's experiencing as a political representative for the city. Running for mayor is something he's prepared himself for for a long time, and he felt it was a logical next step for him to become even more immersed in the community.

"You're one piece of a big team and I want to collaborate and work with council and administration and really represent the community and the residents and our stakeholders on what they want to see St. Albert look like," he said. "It's really important to me that St. Albert looks and feels the way it does and continues to do so because that's what the draw is for St. Albert."
