At approximately 1 a.m. this morning, the St. Albert Fire Services received a call reporting a commercial building on fire.
St. Albert Fire Services responded to the call with three fire engines, one tower, one rescue and a total of 20 firefighters.
Everett Cooke, St. Albert’s fire chief, said the fire was located at the shared Wendy’s and Tim Hortons building at 470 St Albert Trail. He said there were workers on site who called in the fire, but there were no injuries, and the fire was quickly contained.
“Due to the quick work of the St. Albert Fire Service members were able to knock the fire down and to contain the fire and stop it from spreading, reducing further damage from occurring to the structure,” said Cooke.
Cooke says they are still investigating the cause and origin of the fire but that the fire appeared to start in the roof area of the building.
Abdul Khailq, the operational manager at Wendy’s, said he expects they will be open by Monday or Tuesday of next week, but the Tim Hortons will be able to open earlier. He explained that the fire only affected the Wendy’s side of the building.
