Marie Renaud: St. Albert’s Readers’ Choice and Relentless Advocate

At a time when the Alberta political landscape is defined by shifting loyalties and fleeting popularity, Marie Renaud works at improving consistency, compassion, and community connection above all.

Recently re-elected for a third consecutive term as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for St. Albert, Renaud has added another accolade to her name: St. Albert Gazette’s 2025 Readers’ Choice Award for Favourite Local Politician.

This recognition is more than just a popularity contest for Marie—it’s a reflection of the connections and affinity she has earned through years of public service to St. Albert. “I’m so flattered,” Renaud said when informed of the award. “It’s so lovely and it just makes me feel really warm inside”. That warmth is mutual. Her constituents have consistently shown their support, with her most recent election win securing nearly 59% of the vote—the highest share she’s received in her three campaigns.

Renaud’s journey into politics was rooted in advocacy long before she ever stepped into the legislature. Prior to her election in 2015, she served for 14 years as the executive director of the LoSeCa Foundation in St. Albert, a local non-profit supporting individuals with disabilities. Her background in community service laid the foundation for a political career focused on practical solutions, inclusion, and collaboration.

As an MLA, Renaud has been a vocal champion for strengthening Alberta’s public healthcare and education systems. She’s also been a tireless advocate for fair municipal funding, pushing back against what she describes as the “nickel and diming” of provincial transfers under the current government. Her efforts aim to ensure cities like St. Albert receive the resources they need—not just to maintain municipal infrastructure, but to grow and thrive.

But Renaud’s impact goes beyond policy. She’s known for showing up—not just in the legislature, but in the community. Whether it’s standing in solidarity with the disability community or speaking out against racism, she brings both empathy and urgency to the issues that matter most. “I will always continue to show up as an ally,” she said, emphasizing her commitment to being a visible and vocal advocate in the face of rising misinformation and hate.

Marie Renaud’s story is one of perseverance and purpose. From her early days working with vulnerable populations to her current role shaping provincial policy, she has remained steadfast in her mission to serve. Her recognition as St. Albert’s favourite politician is not just a personal victory—it’s a testament to the kind of leadership that resonates deeply with the people she represents. It seems the people in St. Albert like their politicians authentic, passionate, and just self-deprecating enough to admit they still get nervous speaking in public.

As she embarks on another term, Renaud shows no signs of slowing down. She’s committed to pushing for a fair deal for municipalities like St. Albert, pushing for transparency from government and continuing to be a strong voice for those who often go unheard. Renaud’s vision for Alberta is one of prosperity and opportunity for all of its citizens.
