Local RCMP recovered a stolen truck and firearms through their patrol checks, but after taking the vehicle to a tow yard, the truck was stolen again just hours later.

On Dec. 14, at 12:40 a.m., St. Albert RCMP were patrolling and found a grey GMC Sierra truck parked on the side of the road on Ridgewood Terrace with an obstructed license place.

The RCMP ran a check on the vehicle licence plate, as GMC Sierras are commonly stolen trucks, and found the vehicle was stolen from Tofield, Alta. on Dec. 11.

RCMP seized the truck and found a loaded 12 gauge shotgun with a sawed off barrel stolen from Viking, Alta. inside. The truck also contained a .22 caliber bolt action rifle, stolen from Viking, Alta. A .22 caliber magazine was found along with numerous boxes of 12 gauge shotgun rounds, one box of .22 calibre rounds and multiple knives.

The truck was towed to a local tow yard and sometime between 2:00 a.m. and 5:50 a.m. unknown individuals broke into the tow yard and the truck was stolen again.

Later that morning the stolen truck was recovered in Edmonton by Edmonton Police Service.

St. Albert RCMP continue to investigate but have not identified who may be responsible for these thefts.

St. Albert RCMP encourage the public to report any criminal or suspicious activity.  Reports tell us where to look, who to look for, and where to patrol in the future.
