Tax hike at 2.78 per cent

St. Albert homeowners can expect to see a 2.78 per cent residential property tax increase next year. The proposed increase for business owners is 2.95 per cent.

St. Albert homeowners can expect to see a 2.78 per cent residential property tax increase next year. The proposed increase for business owners is 2.95 per cent.

Both figures were released in the proposed 2010-12 business plan and budget, which will be unveiled to city council on Monday.

City administration has described this year’s budget as “no frills,” with a focus on maintaining existing service levels in the community.

The city’s three-year capital budget calls for $117 million in spending in 2010-12.

Formal budget deliberations will begin Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. In addition, council will host a town hall meeting to hear feedback from citizens on Nov. 9. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Cornerstone Pentecostal Fellowship.
