St. Albert RCMP officers were called out to a Grandin home Monday night after a verbal argument apparently led to bloodshed.
Officers apprehended a suspect at the scene and charges against the 23-year-old male are now pending.
Const. Janice Schoepp of the city RCMP detachment said the victim was rushed to the Sturgeon Community Hospital following the attack and has since been transported to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery.
The suspect and the injured man are roommates in the Grandin home. According to police, the suspect had apparently been drinking when he got into an argument with the other man.
“There was a verbal argument that escalated and then the victim was stabbed,” said Const. Janice Schoepp.
The two men are not related to one another.
The RCMP was not releasing the exact address of the house, but the Gazette has learned it was on Gordon Crescent, near the southern edge of the city.
The injured man had not been drinking and police believe he was stabbed during the verbal argument.
The man’s wife called 911 and police arrived on the scene within minutes. Several officers were observed at the scene of the stabbing gathering evidence. They also blocked off the street while investigating the incident.
Schoepp did not know how many times the victim had been stabbed or with what type of knife.
She said the accused person is known to police and has a criminal record, but she did not divulge his name because charges have not yet been formally laid against him.
So far this year there have been four stabbings in the city. In all four cases charges have been laid and the matters are now before the courts.
