The Fire and Ice Festival, originally scheduled to be held on Family Day, has been cancelled.

The festival, hosted by the St. Albert Firefighters Local 2130, was originally scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. on Feb. 17, but has been cancelled due to the extremely cold temperatures.

"Due to temperatures forecasted to at or below -25 C on Monday, Feb. 17 the Fire and Ice Festival will not be running on Family Day. St. Albert Firefighters hope to see everyone out next year in 2026!" a statement said on the City's website.

St. Albert's extreme weather response has been active since Feb. 1 and is currently scheduled to remain in effect until Feb. 14. The extreme weather response is initiated when:

  • actual temperatures have reached or are forecasted to be - 20°C or below
  • an Environment Canada Extreme Weather Alert has been issued and temperatures or wind chill are expected to reach - 20°C for at least two hours.

If weather conditions remain extremely cold beyond this time frame, the response will be extended.
