St. Albert RCMP arrest one man in drug seizure

Edmonton resident faces drug trafficking, weapons charges

RCMP seized a number of drugs, currency, and guns at the Edmonton residence and vehicle.

One man has been arrested following an investigation and search warrant executed by the St. Albert RCMP, resulting in the seizure of over three kilograms of cocaine and methamphetamine.

On Feb. 6, the St. Albert RCMP Drug Unit, with assistance from the St. Albert RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, executed a search warrant on a vehicle and residence in the Carlisle neighbourhood in Edmonton. Police seized the following items:

  • Over 2.4 kilograms of cocaine;
  • 895 grams of methamphetamine;
  • 855 grams of buffing agent;
  • Over $30,000 in Canadian currency;
  • Drug paraphernalia consistent with trafficking;
  • Three handguns, all of which were loaded at the time of their seizure, two of which had defaced serial numbers, and one of which was reported stolen;
  • Multiple prohibited firearm magazines;
  • Approximately 400 rounds of ammunition.

Edmonton resident Jose Dobney-Cooper, 33, has been charged with a number of offences, including trafficking in a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, and resist arrest.

Dobney-Cooper is set to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton on Feb. 14.
