St. Albert parking ordinances are not to be toyed with.

This is a law-and-order community.

But for the second half of November, motorists in the city can have a little bit of fun with Municipal Enforcement Services and pay for parking infractions with Pokemons and Tickle Me Elmos.

Are those still a thing?

The city’s 15th annual Toys for Tickets initiative begins Nov. 15. Eligible parking tickets issued between Nov. 15 and 30 can be “paid” for with a new, unwrapped gift for a child.

The ticket must be paid with a toy within the early payment date range to be eligible.

Toys must be new and in original packaging.

Gifts can be appropriate for an age range that stretches all the way from newborns to 16. Eligible tickets will be issued with a Toys for Tickets notification providing information about the opportunity.

The toy must be worth at least $25; you’ll have to trade the receipt for your ticket.

Drop toys off at the Maloney Place RCMP detachment at 96 Bellrose Drive and they’ll be donated to the Fill-A-Bus campaign led by St. Albert Transit and Diversified Transportation, as part of the Kinette Club of St. Albert’s Christmas Hamper Campaign.

It couldn’t be easier: Just leave the toy, its receipt and the ticket attached in the bin at the detachment during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, by Dec. 7.

In 2023, the 14th edition of the campaign took in 97 toys worth in the region of $2,300, according to a news release, an increase over the 61 toys worth $1,340 collected in 2022.

“Many St. Albert residents also helped support this campaign by dropping off toy donations even without receiving a ticket," according to a news release.

No one at MES will be upset if there are more toys than tickets in the bin at the end of the day this year, either, so go ahead and drop off donations without violations to your heart’s desire.

Or, introduce angle parking to the lot across from St. Albert Place. Go for a walk, see a show.
