A young woman brandished a knife and threatened two McDonald’s employees early Monday morning, in a failed robbery attempt.

The woman entered the McDonald’s at St. Albert Trail and Galarneau Place around 4 a.m., pulled out a long kitchen knife and demanded money.

She reached forward and attempted to grab one of the two employees behind the counter.

She also demanded they open the cash register. The employees pulled away from the woman and fled into the kitchen area and kept a distance from the woman.

Cpl. Laurel Kading with the St. Albert RCMP said after the employees ran into the kitchen, the woman fled the scene.

“When they eventually did peer forward she was gone,” said Kading. “She didn’t do anything further, she simply left.”

The two female employees were shaken up, but otherwise unharmed and they did not see the woman leave.

Based on the information from the employees, investigators believe the young woman left on foot, but they do not know what direction she went, Kading said.

“They didn’t see any vehicle associated with her. They didn’t see anyone else who might have been with her,” she said.

The woman was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and red-framed sunglasses and had brown curly hair. She had light-coloured skin and is believed to be about five-foot-six.

Anyone with any information on this robbery is asked to call the St. Albert RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. Crime Stoppers tipsters remain anonymous and can qualify for cash rewards if their information leads to an arrest.
