Lately, you’ve been thinking how those dark wooden cabinets in your kitchen really scream that your style is still stuck in the 1970s. It’s high time that you bring things up to date.
The best and most economical way to do that is also one of the simplest: put a new colour of paint on them, says C & C Construction. The oldest trend is now the newest trend, too.
“The modern style is having lots of cabinets painted solid colours, like whites and off whites and grays … mostly getting rid of the actual wood grain whether it's natural wood doors or cabinets or baseboards,” suggested project manager Antonio de Carolis.
Simple, solid white is coming back in a big way. It’s just one of the ways that styles change so much over the years that they have actually come full circle, he postulated.
This back-to-basics trend started probably about a year ago and it’s catching fire. Homeowners who haven’t changed their kitchen’s look in decades need to get with the times.
That means any old wood paneling needs to go as does any wooden cabinetry, doors, or trim like casing and baseboards.
The good news, if you decide on getting your cabinets repainted, is that C & C can do it in the most efficient way possible, and that means cost- and time-efficient. They take the cabinet doors with them, removing most of the messy business from your own house, which is a big plus.
They do the spray painting of the doors on site in their Campbell Park shop, but you get to keep your cabinets where you need them. The cabinet boxes are painted in situ with brush and roller. This is a system that works out best for everybody involved. It's more cost-effective, de Carolis continued, plus he and his team have lots of experience in the proper method for this renovation so that homeowners don't end up with cabinets that have scratching, chipping, or peeling happen.
A typical kitchen project like this will only take a few days from start to finish. It’s not only time efficient, but there’s also a reduced disturbance to the home. Homeowners hardly even notice that the cabinet doors are gone for such a short period of time. That, plus repainting existing cabinets means they’re looking at thousands of dollars less than purchasing new fixtures.
For people who are trying to freshen up their kitchens in other cost efficient ways, he has other suggestions as well.
“When it comes to kitchens, if you want to change the backsplash or change your countertops or change your faucets, even your handles on your cabinets ... there's lots of small ways to make a big difference for sure.”
The sky's the limit, he says, and yes, it even includes the kitchen sink.
