Fire ban issued in Sturgeon County and Edmonton

After weeks of fires across the province, including grass and bush fires in Edmonton, Sturgeon County and Edmonton have both issues fire bans. 

St. Albert currently is not under a fire ban. 

In the county, no outdoor fires are allowed until futher notice including recreational firepits, open fires, burn barrels, incinerators, fireworks, chimineas and solid fuel barbecues. 

In the county, residents can still use cooking and recreational appliances —such as fire tables, barbecues, smokers and patio heaters – that can be turned on or off using a switch or value. All outdoor fires currently burning must be extinguished. No new burn permits or fireworks permits will be issued. All fire and fireworks permits remain suspended until further notice.

Sturgeon County urges the public to use extreme caution when working or driving in grassy areas and to keep vehicles clean and free of debris as smoldering debris can start fires. 

This restriction does not apply to the use of ATVs or OHVs.

Edmonton

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) is prohibiting open burning, fireworks, backyard fire pits and cooking stoves and BBQs that use fuels like wood and briquettes until further notice. 

Most of the province is under a fire ban as of Tuesday morning.
