The City of St. Albert has partnered with the City of Edmonton to offer a park-and-ride service to the 50th annual Heritage Festival in Edmonton throughout the August long weekend.

The park-and-ride service will operate from the Nakî Transit Centre, located at 15520 Campbell Rd.

Starting Saturday, Aug. 5, those interested in attending the Heritage Festival can access the park and ride service from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with buses scheduled to depart every 10 minutes.

On Sunday, Aug. 6, the service will be offered between 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m., and on Monday between 9:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Due to the temporary closure of Hawrelak Park in Edmonton, this year's Heritage Festival is taking place at the Edmonton Exhibition Lands and Borden Park.

Heritage Festival offers the opportunity to learn more about other cultures and countries, with dozens of pavilions set up to showcase other parts of the world.

“The Edmonton Heritage Festival is the world's largest three-day multiculturalism celebration,” the festival's website says. “The festival showcases a diversity of cuisine, entertainment, interpretive materials, and crafts worldwide.”

“There is no admission to enter or to watch the many cultural dances and folk music shows throughout the day. Attendees will be able to purchase various food made by the pavilions.”

The festival made headlines last month after organizers announced that there would be no Russian pavilion at this year's event. Organizers had cited “safety concerns” as the reason behind the ban.

Airshow park-and-ride also being offered

With another major event also taking place this long weekend, the Edmonton Transit Service will also be operating a free park-and-ride service at Nakî Transit Centre for those interested in attending the annual Alberta International Airshow, which takes place Aug. 5-6.

Airshow park and ride services will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with return trips from the Villeneuve Airport beginning at 4:30 p.m.

“Park-(and)-ride services to the Heritage Festival will be running at the same time so please ensure you board the correct bus,” the city's website says.
