St. Albertans in need of a rain barrel are in luck, as the city will be holding its annual barrel sale this Saturday.

Rain barrels are designed to attach to the gutters on a house for the purpose of collecting rainwater to, for example, water gardens, which reduces the amount of treated water residents use in the summer while also reducing water bills.

The sale is taking place at the L.B.H. Timber Mart in Riel Business Park starting at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4.

“The 208-litre (55 gallons) rain barrels have a unique shape and are a neutral colour that will blend into any garden scape,” the city's website reads. “They are constructed with up to 50 per cent recycled materials and include a spigot, mosquito mesh, lid and overflow hose that can be linked to another barrel.”

Barrels will cost $65.00, and there will be a limit of two per person, according to the city's website. The sale is also first come first serve, meaning there will be no way to reserve a barrel or pre-pay.

“Rain barrels can be picked up in the L.B.H. building centre yard after payment is made in store,” the city says online.

The sale will continue while barrels last.
