A student was hit by a car on his way to Leo Nickerson Elementary School this week but left the incident with no serious injuries, according to an email that went out to parents.

On Tuesday morning a student was struck by a car and the first aid team at the school attended to the student immediately, the email read.

"Out of caution, however, EMS was called to the scene and the child was transported to the hospital. We have received word from his family that there were no serious injuries. We are extremely grateful for this excellent news," the email read.

A number of parents and students witnessed the incident, the email read, and the staff at school will be keeping a close eye on students to look for signs of distress.

"We have support in place for children who may be feeling anxious or upset. If you feel like your child could use some assistance dealing with this, please reach out to our office," the email read.

The school board reminds parents to use the designated drop-off zones on Sycamore Avenue in front of the school.  If parents do park in an alternate area, please ensure that your children only cross the street using designated crossings.
