LETTERS: Thanks to community for caring for our dog during his final hours

'Unfortunately, Cosmo didn’t survive, but these people made sure he was never alone.'
letter-sta

We moved to St. Albert 10 years ago. We knew we had moved into a wonderful community, but it was never so apparent as on July 1.

The very large, elderly dog I was walking collapsed on the trail behind Lancaster Crescent. I cannot begin to thank the people who stopped to help.

Unfortunately, I only got the name of one of them as I was in such a state of shock. There was a lady who had retired from the fire department on Tuesday, June 28. She knew exactly who to phone so the RCMP could come with their truck.

There were the people who offered water, assistance, and comfort and who stayed until the RCMP came up the walk path.

Being Canada Day, the local vet clinics weren’t open. Jordan B. located the emergency vet clinic in Morinville. Const. Drew Davidson and Const. Samantha Barrett drove Cosmo to the clinic.

Unfortunately, Cosmo didn’t survive, but these people made sure he was never alone. My husband and I want to thank everyone involved who were so kind and generous with their time and compassion.

Cheryl Toshack, St. Albert
