Sent to fight a war not my own
Across the ocean, far from home
Went off to fight an unknown foe
When to return, I do not know
I kissed my lovely wife good-bye
I said to be strong, not to cry
To return when the deed is done
Not giving up ‘til the war’s won
River of blood flows where I lay
Bombs exploding, to God I pray
Only want is to home return
While bodies all around me burn
Sights of horror, no one should see
Stay, fight yet truly want to flee
Thinking of my love and my home
Feel so lost; so very alone
War has ended; the cost so high
Hard to go on but need to try
Ever lost brave women and men
But, we’ll always remember them.
