Teenagers today, what is the world coming to!
This phrase was not spoken by me on Oct. 4 not will it be in the future.
I volunteer at Sst. Albert Seniors Association (SASA) in the pollinator garden. Fifty bags of compost had been purchased and arrangements had been made for a truck to transport the bags to the garden. However, unloading the bags was proving to be a problem as we garden seniors, the majority of whom are women, are not agile nor as strong as we once were. My husband thought he would check with Ecole Secondaire St. Albert Catholic High School to see if some of the students could help out. Permission was granted by the school and volunteers stepped forward.
On Oct. 4, Cara, the vice principal, along with a group of boys from Grades 10, 11 and 12 walked to the SASA garden. Two boys climbed into the truck box and passed the compost bags to the other boys. The worked efficiently and quickly and within minutes there were four neat piles lying on the ground. The job was done and my stress level was gone.
I thanked the boys and Cara verbally but felt it was important to share, in writing, his unselfish act of community help. Cara and the boys took time out of their day to help out a group of seniors they did not know. What they did is appreciated immensely.
