LETTER: Seniors centre valuable in community

letters

The St. Albert Senior Centre is an essential service for a community of people who support and care for each other It is a place that is safe and supportive where we can access services that that improve our lives, There are so many people that will be hurt if the city goes ahead and cuts money in our budget.

The reduction means a lot to the centre as we are already supporting it by raising funds during the year to help meet our needs, We have an amazing executive director Linda Ensley who is working very hard to keep the centre going. She has already reduced staff and is using volunteers to keep expenses as low as possible, If the city reduces our funding some of the things that may be lost are programs and services and prices will be raised where it will be no longer accessible to many people. to participate in these programs. The programs and activities that we lose will have an impact on seniors lives. The centre provides a social worker who assists seniors in our community with issues they are facing. The kitchen serves healthy meals at a very reasonable price and provides the city with Meals on Wheels which may have to be cancelled. If we have the reduction in our budget it will hurt many people who have been good citizens and done so much for our community and need these services now.

Diane Poole, St. Albert
