In light of the recent article featuring Coun. Shelley Biermanski, it’s clear that if the council acknowledges the renaming process as flawed, and administration acted poorly. We need to redo it to make it right for the residents of Grandin.
Many residents who opposed the renaming were left out of the process, and it's essential that their voices are heard. None of the councillors ran in the last election on a mandate to change any subdivisions, including Grandin. This indicates that the renaming is indeed an election issue that should be addressed in our upcoming October election.
It’s important that we have candidates who disclose where they stand on this issue and that residents are not left feeling like the rug was pulled out from under them by insincere and unscrupulous councillors. The residents of Grandin deserve to be treated fairly and equitably, just like any other area in our city. Simply tweaking the process for the future doesn't rectify the damage done or reflect the community's sentiments.
Let’s advocate for a transparent and fair process moving forward, ensuring that every resident’s opinion matters in shaping our community’s identity!
