LETTERS

I am a St Albert library user. I pay my taxes, I do not have children going to school here but my taxes pay for schools. I do not use the baseball diamonds, I am not able to play soccer, or hockey. Sadly I am not able to use many of the physical activities that St Albert provides. I am still glad that my taxes help pay for these facilities that other people use. I am delighted that my taxes help the library and the services it provides me. It was the library services that was the jewel in the crown that attracted us to return to St Albert after living many years away. We knew our activity levels would become more restricted but were pleased by the active library programs and helpful welcoming staff. It seemed that St Albert was a city of vision. I am not so sure I feel that way any longer. No City, or corporation devastates one service because it is too lazy to see cuts that can be made in other departments. No one has asked me if I want only the library to receive such devastating cuts. None of my neighbours have been asked. Just who did these councillors ask? They have not asked us the tax payers nor the people to whom the library has been a life line through illnesses, through grief, loneliness or plain difficult times.
The St Albert library matters to me very deeply and to me it is the heart of St Albert. Please rethink.

Charlotte McLellan, St. Albert
