LETTER: Liquor in parks just fine; punish law-breakers accordingly

Re: "Sipping Pinot in city parks will come with pitfalls," Editorial, The Gazette, July 28.

Dad was a soldier, so I grew up in Germany. When I returned as a young adult I felt as if I had stepped back in time.

Remember the provincial liquor stores and the off-duty cop? Everyone stocked up for the long weekend because the stores were closed on Sunday and the holiday Monday.

The conversation was often, too, about the “IPS” one got. It was all Greek to me. In Germany, the gas station pop machine also stocked beer, but if you drank and drove, they threw the book at you.

Enforce the law with those who misbehave, but don’t treat me like a child.
