On the morning of Aug. 17 while walking in St. Albert's beautiful river valley, for my regular walk, I fell. I was pretty beaten up, with the worst of my injuries being a fractured clavicle.
From the moment this happened and throughout the day I was surrounded by kind people. I was walking with a friend and her visitor, whom I’d never met before. Our cars were parked at the seniors centre and my fall occurred by River Bank Bistro. Although I could walk I was too shaken up to do so, so my friend, Susan, left me with her friend as well as a gentleman by the name of Bern, who stopped to see what he could do to help. This Good Samaritan stayed with me until Susan returned with her car to take me to the Sturgeon Hospital. Susan and Darla waited with me at the Sturgeon until my husband arrived from his golf game.
The staff at the Sturgeon were all kind and efficient starting with the triage nurse. Followed by Chelsey the LPN, who cheerfully cleaned me up, gave me a tetanus shot and generally kept me, and many others, informed, as to what was happening. Dr. Ross and Darlene in the X-ray department were also very caring as well as plain speaking.
My husband and I left the Sturgeon armed with information as to follow-up and home treatment. To top off all this kindness, a neighbour, who had heard about my fall, stopped by with supper. I will never forget the kindness shown to me in my hour of need.
