In regards to the proposed 2023 tax increase, it seems impossible to get through a paragraph without shaking one's head. Every word that comes out of a politician is backwards and infuriating.
Mayor Cathy Heron and her band of loyalists think, "Oh, we get perks and free lunches, what's an eight-per-cent increase?"
We receive $4 million for COVID, which is not being used for COVID. The $4 million is taxpayer money being used to pay taxes, which sounds great. Chief administrative officer Bill Fletcher's words really take the cake: "It's easy to alter levels, but it's very difficult to fundamentally change or cancel them."
This statement and others like it exemplify the disdain for constituents and citizens in general — total lack of regard for decency and truth on full display. It's easy to alter them but hard to change them? If you listen to politicians, it would seem it is impossible to curtail spending. To all the responsible and caring people who I know we have an abundance of, get involved, run for office or school board. We need to take our province back from these unaccountable detriments.
