Earlier this summer, I experienced an unfortunate accident with my bicycle. From ambulance pick up to discharge, I spent two and one-half days in our hospital system. I left the hospital with current knowledge and respect for the challenging work the doctors, nurses and support staff do on a daily basis.
To clarify, patients in pain are not just restricted to the emergency ward; they are certainly distributed throughout the hospital, if they are admitted, to where there are available beds. I'm sure efforts are made to match the patient's malady with the appropriate ward, but once on the ward, it becomes the responsibility of the ward staff...until a bed becomes available elsewhere.
I can speak only for myself. My conclusion is that doctors, nurses and support staff are warriors for improving my health.
It is my disappointment that our current provincial government disregards the comfort and value these hospital warriors are prepared to provide you and me.
