I was turning right onto Boudreau Road at Sturgeon Drive at 5 p.m. on Saturday just as the light turned green, and I had to slam on the brakes for two very young kids (less than seven years old) racing across the street on scooters. They weren’t there when I started turning, and I hadn’t expected anyone to be coming that fast. When the adults with them, on foot, finally crossed the street, I rolled down my window and said how dangerous it was. for kids that young to be riding across four lanes of traffic without looking — it’s also against the law to ride in a crosswalk, at any age. They started yelling at me, saying it was my fault and I should’ve been looking before turning (I had). They didn’t seem concerned that these kids could have been killed and were more worried about blame. I’m just glad I saw the kids in time and hope that they’re just as lucky next time.
