Re: "Habitat for Humanity helps families build a future," St. Albert Gazette, April 4, page 1:
I am surprised that the $1 million in grants from the City of St. Albert and the federal government was applied to only four houses. I am sure there are many, many young families in St. Albert who have been struggling for years to save enough money to buy a house, new or old, so why were these funds given to so few houses for so few people ($250,000 each)? Why wasn't it applied to at least 10 houses so 10 young families could buy a house? No doubt only four houses were built recently, but more could be built in the near future, so why not reserve some of these funds for future new homes? If it must be applied to houses for Black families, I am sure there are ones that could qualify.
I am sure the four families that benefited from these grants are very happy, but why not more families?
