Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for St. Albert.
“While conditions will moderate during the daytime hours, overnight and early morning wind chills near minus 40 could return for parts of Alberta until the middle of the week,” the alert, issued at 3:46 p.m. Sunday. “Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.
“Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.”
A 30 per cent chance of flurries comes along with the dangerous cold. The wind chill is expected to reach -39 overnight.
Monday will be sunny with a high of just -25 C, a wind chill of -40 in the morning and -32 in the afternoon.
“Frostbite in minutes,” Environment Canada warns.
Tuesday is expected to be cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of flurries and a high of -23 C.
Some relief from the extreme cold is expected Wednesday, with its daytime high of -14 C persisting through the overnight and highs of -10 C and -9 C to end the week.
