I am glad that Jason Kenney is concerned about Alberta Human Rights (AHR)! In October 2020 I began the AHR complaint process against Alberta Health. I am still fighting for my right to receive the drug Remicade.
When the Alberta government decided to replace this drug with a cheaper biosimilar – they exempted those under 18 years and pregnant women. I tried to find out why. Is doing this to prevent problems for these groups – has there been adverse reactions or is this just window dressing – making the government look caring? I was unable to get an answer – not even a response from the Federal Health department – who had provided the information about biosimilars to the Alberta Government.
I am also regarded as a person with an impaired immune system, I am 77 years old, therefore I believe I am being discriminated against on the grounds of age. Doing this during a pandemic to older people does not make sense, especially since Janssen the manufacturer had already agreed to reduce the price. Further I have developed another difficulty, increasing growth in a hiatus hernia has forced my stomach into my chest cavity.
The solution – just begin using biosimilars on new patients. I have been using Remicade for several years to control Crohns disease, it has helped me tremendously.
So I appeal to you, Jason, please talk some sense into the Health Ministry and help me with my human rights claim – there is not much time, January 2021 is the deadline.
Thank you for your anticipated assistance.
