LETTER: Curb extensions shouldn't be a priority

"Are these structures a benefit? I keep thinking, we do not need taxes to rise any more."
letter-sta

Lately, as I have been out and about, I have noticed many low cement twisted structures coming from both sides of the roadway and narrowing it.

These appear very dangerous, anyone who may accidentally try to cross over may fall and hurt themselves – in the wintertime streets get icy, slippery; anyone may drive into them – graders, snowplows. Are they going to be able to manoeuvre themselves over these? Why do we think these are of an essence when we are in a pandemic – job losses, economy in a poor state, small business are closing shop, etc. – money to throw away on these kind of structures?

We are not teaching the drivers anything by these slowing-down places. Drivers should have responsibility to drive within the speed limits as posted. Most drivers do. I am sorry, but I feel there are so many people that require the food banks and we are spending this kind of money on structures that may be a problem, and we may have to dismantle them – at a cost again.

Are these structures a benefit? I keep thinking, we do not need taxes to rise any more.
