On March 10, 2024, Joe Adrian Zwierink of St. Albert, AB passed away suddenly at the age of 64.


He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Sheryl; children: Alyssa (Kevin), Teagan (Chris), Nathan; nephew, Cole, who he thought of as a son; mother, Gertrude; brother, Melvin (Elizabeth); sisters: Joy, and Annette (Chris); brothers: Chris and Norman; sister Shirley. He will also be dearly missed by numerous other family and friends.


Joe was predeceased by his father John Zwierink; father Walter Loney; mother Margaret Otto; sister Diana Ruttan; sister Margaret (Maggie) Loney, as well as his father-in-law Jack Kraft; mother-in-law Betty Kraft; sister-in-law Rhonda Ricard; and brother-in-law Paul Kraft.


Joe was born in Edmonton, Alberta and lived his whole life in the Edmonton/St. Albert region. He was part of the Scoop 60 and lived in various foster homes before being taken in by the Zwierink family in 1969.


Joe loved to work with his hands. He was a carpenter by trade. He and a friend had a cedar design business in the late 70’s. In 1984, he began working as a Building Maintenance Worker for the City of St. Albert. He worked for the city maintaining various buildings and parks until his retirement in 2021.

Joe loved spending time with his family camping, hiking, biking, and kayaking. He was also an avid gardener. When he was a young teenager, he worked at Hole’s Greenhouse and later with John Beedle, who developed the St. Albert Botanical Gardens.


A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, March 22, 2024 in St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive.  All are welcome to attend.
