It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Brian Gordon Joseph Willas from cancer on August 18, 2023 at 69 years of age.

 

He is survived by sisters Sharon (Don) Rubuliak, Sandy (Lance) Bard, Donna Willas (Stephen Webster), Karen (Tim) Carlson, and Diane (Darwin) Bozek, and by his brother Ted Burrell. He is also survived by nieces Elina Rubuliak and Honya Bianchini, Rochelle Carlson and Erin Carlson, and Kennedy Bozek, and by his nephew Dallas Bozek. Brian will be fondly remembered by his aunt Joni Sentes and his cousins Michelle Platt and Guy Sentes of Regina SK.

 

Brian was predeceased by his father Gordon Willas, mother Bernice Willas Racine and step-father Lionel Racine. Brian will also be dearly missed by step-sister Jocelyn (Ron) Muir, nephews James (Courtney) Muir, Ryan Muir, and Chris (Courtney) Muir, and by nephews and nieces Mac, Violet, Ryker, Jaxson, Jasmine and Nella.

 

Brian enjoyed many friendships over the years with fellow model makers in the International Plastic Model Society and the Edmonton Model Railroad Association as well as with enthusiasts in men’s recreational hockey.

 

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday September 8, 2023 at the Kingsway Legion, 14339 50 Street NW, Edmonton, AB.  RSVP to Karen at [email protected].

 

Sincere thanks to all the medical professionals at Sturgeon Community Hospital, University Hospital and Edmonton General Hospice for their compassionate care.  Memorial contributions in Brian’s name may be made to these hospital foundations, to the Salvation Army of Canada, or to The City of Edmonton Library Board.
