It is with sad hearts that the family of Betty Walkingshaw (nee Hunter) announce her passing at the age of 91 on October 7th, 2023. Betty was born on August 4th, 1932 in Baldur, Manitoba.

She will be deeply missed by her three children Shari Paziuk (Brian), Lindy Sacuta-Baney (Steve Baney), and Robert Walkingshaw as well as her five grandchildren, Karen Kirkwood (David), Adam Walkingshaw (Renee), Neal Walkingshaw (Jennifer), Brandon Paziuk and Mark Walkingshaw (Jennifer), and ten great-grandchildren, each a joy in her life.

Betty is also survived by her sister Sylvia Hunter of Okotoks. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Darwin; brother Vernon Hunter; sisters Donna Dench and Margaret Stewart; son-in-law Alan Sacuta and daughter-in-law Joyce Walkingshaw; along with numerous close relatives and friends.

After many memorable years in Lethbridge, AGT transferred Darwin to Edmonton where the family lived for three years. St. Albert became home in 1973 until another transfer took Darwin, Betty and Rob to Ottawa for two years. Their love of St. Albert brought them back there until Darwin retired. Darwin accepted a contract that required them to live in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for the next three years. This opportunity allowed them to explore many parts of the world. Of course, they returned to St. Albert where they continued their involvement in social and volunteer activities. Betty was an active member of the UCW at St. Albert United Church and the Ethel Cuts Chapter of IODE. She also volunteered for election campaigns. She enjoyed a good game of bridge with her many friends and spending time with family. Her gift of laughter and fellowship will be greatly missed by all.

To honour Betty’s request, a private family service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Alberta Diabetes Foundation or a charity of your choice.
