Henry (Henk) Van Zalingen passed away in Edmonton on December 27, 2024. Henk is survived by his children Sylvia (Ray Carrier) of Smithers BC, Jeannette (Mel) Watamaniuk of Sturgeon County AB, and Henry (Tracy) Van Zalingen of Golden BC; his 6 grandsons, André (Mikayla), Ben (Jasmine), Matthew (Claire), Stuart (Arisha), Jason (Alysha) and Jack, and numerous family members in the Netherlands and Europe. He was predeceased by his loving wife Femia.
Henk was born in Rhenen, the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1954. He met Femia during a family visit and she followed him to Canada in 1961. After marrying in Edmonton they settled in Hinton, where Henk worked in the forest industry until his retirement in 2000. After Femia’s passing in 2010, Henk moved to St. Albert where he lived his remaining years.
Henk was an adventurous man who instilled the love of the outdoors and travel in his children. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and ‘opa’. He will be greatly missed.
Cremation has taken place, and Henk’s ashes will be interred at a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice in Henk’s memory. Condolences may be posted online at https://www.trinityfuneralhome.ca/obituary/henry-john-van-zalingen/.
