1938 – 2024
Victoria “Vicki” Toner (née Babick) was born in her grandmother’s house on her family’s farm near Tway, Saskatchewan. She attended elementary school in Crystal Springs and completed high school in Humboldt. Following high school, Vicki pursued her passion for helping others, completing two years of nursing school in Moose Jaw before taking up employment with the Canadian Red Cross in Saskatoon.
In 1962, Vicki married Theodore “Theo” Toner, whom she had known for many years in Crystal Springs. Together, they raised three sons: Marshall, Gregory, and Patrick. While Theo focused on farming and construction, Vicki dedicated herself to the home, ensuring the boys excelled in school and, whenever possible, avoided the emergency room. Spring and fall were especially busy seasons for Vicki, filled with gardening, seeding, harvesting, and canning.
After her sons graduated from university and settled in Alberta, Vicki took a memorable trip to Croatia, her father Stephen’s homeland. She often described it as “the trip of a lifetime,” cherishing the opportunity to connect with her roots and extended family abroad.
In addition to family and friends, Vicki had a big heart for animals, especially pets and strays. Her open-door policy extended to four-legged visitors, always welcoming them with treats and affection.
Vicki was a lifelong learner and a passionate advocate for personal development. She valued education, healthy living, fitness, and personal growth, dedicating herself to these principles throughout her life. In her later years, she enjoyed working at Sangster’s Health Foods, where she shared her extensive knowledge of health and nutrition.
Vicki leaves the world a better place, remembered for the profound love, kindness, and positive energy she brought to everyone she encountered. She saw life through a lens of wonder, beauty, and grace, always viewing the glass as half full. Her optimism attracted lifelong friends, beautiful memories, and a legacy of love that continues with all who knew her.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Freida and Frela, the staff at Foyer Lacombe Covenant Care, and Dr’s. Zalasky, Richmond, Fischer, and others for their exceptional care. Vicki was deeply moved by the kindness of friends and relatives who offered support through calls, flowers, letters, and cherished visits filled with laughter and shared memories.
Left to celebrate Vicki’s life are her sons: Marshall (Sherie), Gregory (Linda), and Patrick (Christine); grandchildren: Jennifer (Chad), Brett (Rebecca), Stephen, Charlie, Carson, Katherine, and Juliet; and great-granddaughter, Lyra. Also cherishing her memory are her brother, Allan (Denise), brother-in-law, Wayne (Faye), sisters-in-law Eileen (Ken), Doreen, and Tiny, as well as numerous other family members and friends in Canada and abroad.
Vicki was predeceased by her parents, Stephen and Annie Babick, and her beloved husband, Theodore Toner. Her memory lives on through the love, joy, and wisdom she shared so freely with all.
